CEMEX Egypt the largest companies operating in the sustainable construction sector in the Egyptian market has announced on Thursday the milestones which had achieved during 2022.
The company is currently participating in the construction process of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) project in cooperation with several partners, supplying the project with up to 220,000 cubic meters of concrete products.
It also was a main participant at COP27 in line with its efforts towards climate action and it took part in a range of residential and commercial projects through its various products, according to the statement.
CEMEX Egypt had made a great leap in the digital transformation field as it celebrated the 5th anniversary of its digital platform CEMEX GO, which is the first digital platform in the building materials sector in Egypt.
Moreover, it has cooperated with the VeryNile initiative to clean the Nile River by collecting and recycling plastic waste and safely transforming the non-recyclable waste into alternative fuel and using it in its cement plant in Assiut.
Since the protocol signing ceremony, CEMEX has received 5 trucks loaded with non-hazardous, non-recyclable plastic waste, with a total amount of about 28 tons, to be converted and used as alternative fuel in Assiut plant, instead of fossil fuels.
In addition to that the company’s employees launched the No More Plastic campaign to stop using plastic products at the workplace, which comes as a continuation of the company’s efforts towards a more sustainable future for the coming generations.
Th initiative aims to stop the use of single-use plastic bags, in this regard the company provided cloth bags for all employees to use for their daily activities, instead of plastic bags.
Since each person uses more than 700 plastic bags annually according to World Count, CEMEX employees will contribute to saving 1,610,000 plastic bags annually, by committing to stop using plastic bags.
The company also distributed reusable water bottles which preserves the water’s temperature to the workers, for the purpose of using them instead of plastic bottles.
The company placed two boxes in Cairo and Assiut for five days, in order to collect plastic bags from employees, and awarded them with gifts and vouchers according to the number of bags disposed of.
Throughout the five days, CEMEX was able to collect from its employees more than 26,000 plastic bags, that were delivered to VeryNile where a group of women will recycle them into bags and other products.
CEMEX Egypt has played a major role over the past years in committing to the use of alternative fuel is growing day by day and it is a major step towards protecting the environment from CO2 emissions.
