China announced on Sunday anti-dumping duties of up to 74.9 per cent on POM copolymers, an engineering plastic, imported from the United States, the European Union, Japan, and Taiwan.
The commerce ministry’s investigation, initiated in May 2024, was completed and found that the US had significantly raised tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, computer chips, and other imports.
The ministry stated that POM copolymers can be used as partial replacements for metals like copper and zinc in a variety of applications, including auto parts, electronics, and medical equipment.
In Sunday’s announcement, it was revealed that the United States will face the highest anti-dumping rates of 74.9 per cent, while European imports will be subject to duties of 34.5 per cent.
China imposed a 35.5 per cent tariff on Japanese imports, with the exception of Asahi Kasei Corp, which was granted a company-specific rate of 24.5 per cent.
A 32.6 per cent general duty was imposed on imports from Taiwan, with Formosa Plastics facing a four per cent tariff and Polyplastics Taiwan facing a 3.8 per cent tariff.
