China overtakes Germany in industrial robot adoption
China has surpassed Germany in the deployment of industrial robots, according to a new report from the International Federation of Robotics (IFR) released on Wednesday.
China’s rapid automation growth has increased its robot density to 470 units per 10,000 employees in 2022, up from 402 in the previous year. This surge has placed it in the top 10 globally in just four years.
On the other hand, Germany has a strong position with 429 robots per 10,000 employees, experiencing a 5 per cent annual growth rate in robot density since 2018, said the IFR.
By Region
- Europe: The European Union boasts a robot density of 219 units per 10,000 employees, with Germany, Sweden, Denmark, and Slovenia among the top ten most automated countries globally.
- North America: North America has a robot density of 197 units per 10,000 employees, with the United States ranking eleventh worldwide.
- Asia: Asia leads the world in robot density, with 182 units per 10,000 employees. Countries like South Korea, Singapore, China, and Japan are at the forefront of automation.
Top Robot Adopters
- South Korea: Leading the world with 1,012 robots per 10,000 employees, South Korea’s strong electronics and automotive industries drive its high automation levels.
- Singapore: With 770 robots per 10,000 employees, Singapore’s high automation rate is attributed to its small manufacturing workforce.
- China: Rapidly emerging as a global manufacturing powerhouse, China has significantly increased its robot density to 470 units per 10,000 employees.
- Germany: As Europe’s industrial powerhouse, Germany has a robot density of 429 units per 10,000 employees.
- Japan: The world’s leading robot manufacturing country, Japan has a robot density of 419 units per 10,000 employees.
