China’s leaders will convene in Beijing on October 16 for the 20th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP),which is expected to consolidate President Xi Jinping’s power and signal upcoming economic policy.
This year’s gathering is receiving wide attention to see when Beijing may begin to relax its strict non-proliferation policy known as Zero Covid.
CCP is usually held every five years as it is primarily a political event to determine the next group of ruling party leaders.
The meeting will carefully study the current international and domestic situation, and formulate basic action plans and policies, the American network quoted Chinese channels.
This year’s gathering is very important because it is the first since the outbreak of the Corona virus, which is why CNBC called it historic.
Another thing that makes the upcoming meeting historic is the possibility of a presidential term change.
Xi rose to political positions in China to officially become president in 2013, and he abolished term limits in 2018, and the next meeting is widely expected to discuss an unprecedented term limit.
However, Xi will likely increase his share of political associates at the top two levels of the Chinese leadership, according to Eurasia Group.
Eurasia group has predicted the majority of his political associates holding seats on the Politburo will increase to 80 percent from 60 percent, and rise to 57 percent from 43 percent in the Politburo Standing Committee.
