China’s foreign smartphone sales experienced a 44.25 per cent decline year-over-year in October 2024, including Apple’s iPhone, as per data from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) showed on Wednesday.
Sales of foreign-branded phones dropped to 6.22 million units in October 2024, down from 11.149 million units a year earlier.
Despite the decline in foreign brand sales, overall phone sales in China surged by 1.8 per cent to 29.67 million units in October.
Apple is the top foreign phone maker in China’s smartphone market. Its performance greatly impacts foreign phone sales data in the country.
The iPhone 16 models were released in September, but the AI feature for Chinese users won’t be available until next year. Apple has not yet revealed a Chinese AI partner.
