China’s industrial production grew by 5.8 per cent year on year in May 2025, driven by robust performance in high-tech and equipment manufacturing sectors, data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) showed on Monday.
The manufacturing activity expanded by 6.2 per cent annually, while mining output increased by 5.7 per cent. The production and supply of electricity, heat, gas and water rose by 2.2 per cent, according to NBS report.
Equipment manufacturing output jumped 9.0 per cent, and high-tech manufacturing climbed 8.6 per cent, outperforming the overall industrial average by 3.2 and 2.8 percentage points, respectively.
The manufacturing PMI reached 49.5 in May, up from 49.0 in April, indicating a slower pace of contraction. The Production and Operation Expectation Index rose to 52.5, suggesting improving sentiment among manufacturers.
