China’s car sales increased by 1.3 per cent in the first two months of 2025 compared to the previous year, driven by a customer subsidy programme and a competitive smart electric vehicle market.
In February, passenger vehicle sales increased by 26.1 per cent compared to the previous year, reaching 1.41 million units. This growth followed a 12 per cent decline in January, the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) reported.
The Lunar New Year celebrations, the country’s biggest annual holiday, occurred in late January this year instead of February like last year, causing disruptions to production and consumption activities.
