China’s Qinghai hydropower station connects to grid
The first unit of the Maerdang Hydropower Station, which is the highest-altitude facility of its kind on the upper reaches of the Yellow Rive, commenced operations Monday in Qinghai Province, northwest China, Xinhua reported.
The station, situated at an average altitude of 3,300 metres in the Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Qinghai, boasts a total installed capacity of 2.32 million kilowatts and is a key contributor to the west-to-east power transmission project.
Upon full activation of all units in December, the Maerdang Hydropower Station is likely to produce an impressive average of 7.3 billion kWh of electricity annually.
This development signifies a landmark achievement in Qinghai Province’s pursuit of new energy sources and paves the way for the creation of additional clean energy bases along the upper reaches of the Yellow River.
