China’s retail sales rise in H1 ’25

China’s retail sales grew by 5.0 per cent year-on-year in the first half of 2025, reaching 24.55 trillion yuan, fuelled by strong performance in upgraded and durable goods, the National Bureau of Statistics announced on Tuesday.

Sales of household appliances soared 30.7 per cent, while cultural supplies and communication equipment rose over 24 per cent each. Online retail sales grew 8.5 per cent, with physical goods accounting for nearly a quarter of total retail.
