Egypt’s Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi met with executives from China’s United Energy Group to discuss the company’s expansion plans following its acquisition of Apex International’s assets in the Egyptian Western Desert.
During the meeting, Minister Badawi reaffirmed the government’s commitment to finding sustainable solutions to challenges in the petroleum sector and expressed hope that the Chinese group would build on Apex’s achievements in Egypt.
Apex Chairman Thomas Maher confirmed that the company’s operations would continue until the acquisition is finalised, adding that Apex takes pride in its success in Egypt.
Moreover, United Energy’s Egypt Chairman Kamel El-Sawi stated that the company is preparing to launch an intensive drilling programme immediately after completing the acquisition to boost production and counter the natural decline in well output. He added that United Energy’s investment reflects confidence in Egypt’s petroleum sector, with plans to expand into renewable energy and hydrogen production.
