Chinese Grand Prix likely to be called off amid coronavirus concerns
The Chinese Grand Prix is expected to be postponed as a result of the coronavirus outbreak, according to media reports.
An official announcement is expected to be issued in the coming days.
The Formula One (F1) race is scheduled to be take place in Shanghai on April 19, but multiple media outlets reported on Tuesday that the sport’s governing body would soon move to postpone or possibly cancel the event.
The FIA issued a statement on Wednesday saying it was “closely monitoring” the evolving situation and, if necessary, it will “take any action required to protect the global motor sport community and the wider public.”
On February 5, sports authorities in Shanghai had recommended halting of all sporting events in the city.
