Customs Authority Issues New Tender Worth $65 Mln To Combat Smuggling

Egypt’s Customs Authority is issuing a tender of $65 million to import x-ray devices for Egypt’s ports.

“The tender aims at providing x-ray devices which would enable the regulatory authorities to enhance their performance while they detect the smuggling of prohibited goods without the need for opening all the containers.” Ahmed Farag Saudi, the Director of Customs Authority, told Amwal Al Ghad

“The high rates of the smuggling prohibited goods, Chinese cigarettes and drugs such as Tramadol in particular, had driven Customs Authority to issue orders to open all the containers; the local and the international.”

“This has make the importers incur serious losses. Hence, Customs Authority has decided to issue this tender.” “The tender documents shall be provided within July.”
