Nigeria’s Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals has signed a partnership protocol with global distributor Vinmar Group to export polypropylene produced at its $2 billion petrochemical plant in Lagos. The facility, which began production in March with an annual capacity of 830,000 metric tons, aims to meet local demand and position Nigeria as a net exporter.
Currently, Nigeria imports 90 per cent of its 250,000 mt annual polypropylene needs. With two production units, the plant is expected to become Africa’s largest polypropylene site. Fatima Aliko Dangote, executive director at Dangote Group, announced the partnership during the facility’s official launch on Wednesday.
