Designer for Impact Nourhan ElNemr wins Anissa Hassouna Award
Nourhan ElNemr, a socially-focused designer with a mission to spread happiness through bespoke designs while supporting social causes across Egypt, has won on Saturday Anissa Hassouna Award.
ElNemr, who is founder of Nour ElNemr Designs (NND), has received the award at the 7th Amwal Al Ghad Awards Ceremony, which is taking place in Cairo under the auspices of Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly.
She studied political science at the American University in Cairo (AUC). Her love for design started when she took a course by designer Shosha Kamal in 2016.
“This course helped me advance in the field. I felt that I could change the world through design. I began reading about the power and influence of colors, and how we can use design as a tool to deliver a message,” ElNemr said in previous statements.
Thanks to ElNemr, four hospitals in Egypt, including Hospital 57357, have undergone major transformations with effects that can be felt by staff and patients. She has customised scrubs, post-op gowns, recovery areas and waiting rooms throughout the last four years with the goal of adding brightness and positivity to the patient experience.
At Magdi Yacoub Hospital, ElNemr developed a line of superheroes to feature on the post-operation gowns. Each superhero embodied a healthy habit, such as exercise and coming to follow-up appointments, aiming to encourage kids to adopt healthy habits after operation.
Earlier this month, Amwal Al Ghad and Top 50 Women Forum announced the award to commemorate late Egyptian charity icon Anissa Hassouna.
Hassouna, founder of Al Nas Hospital (People’s Hospital for children), a former member of the Egyptian Parliament, and former Executive Director at the Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation, died after a fierce battle with cancer on March 13 at the age of 69.
