DP World to develop free zone in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital

Dubai-owned ports and logistics company DP World signed on Wednesday a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop a sprawling 500-feddan general free zone within Egypt’s New Administrative Capital (NAC).

The move aligns with Administrative Capital for Urban Development’s (ACUD) vision to establish a fourth-generation city, attracting diverse industries and expanding Egypt’s industrial footprint.

The public free zone, located within a 1,958-feddan industrial zone, is expected to focus on industries such as electronics, automotive, fast-moving consumer goods, apparel, and footwear.

DP World, coordinating closely with the Egyptian General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), will spearhead the free zone’s development with a focus on electronics, automotive, fast-moving consumer goods, apparel, and footwear sectors.

GAFI CEO Hossam Heiba emphasised that the free zone’s location near major Egyptian ports—particularly Ain Sokhna and those on the Mediterranean—will enable seamless cargo movement via the Sokhna-Dekheila logistical corridor.

He also highlighted that businesses in the proposed zone would benefit from tax and customs advantages, supporting their competitiveness in regional and global markets.

The agreement was inked between the state-run New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA), DP World, and the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones, in the presence of Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly.
