Drought threats to cause crop failures in Spain
The main Spanish farmers’ association announced on Thursday that drought is causing irreversible losses to the country’s agricultural land.
The association referred to 60 percent of the Spanish countryside being affected. Additionally, wheat and barley are likely to fail entirely in four regions, the association warned.
New report released by Farmers and Ranchers Organisations referred to irreversible losses affecting more than 3.5 million hectares of crops.
It also affected areas include regions of Andalusia, Extremadura, Castilla La Mancha and Murcia.
Spain has been suffering from long-term drought, officially stated by the country’s weather agency.
Drought announced last month comes following three years of very low rainfall and high temperatures.
