Economic growth drives Egypt’s latest social aid package – PM
Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly said on Sunday that improvements in the country’s economy have created the financial space for the government’s latest social protection package, which targets low-income and vulnerable households ahead of Ramadan.
Speaking at a press briefing, Madbouly highlighted lower inflation, declining interest rates, and rising tax revenues as key factors enabling the initiative.
“These fiscal surpluses, totalling around 40 billion pounds, are being directed straight to the Egyptian people,” he said. “It is a clear response to concerns about whether improvements in financial and economic indicators reach the citizen, and the gains from economic reform are being directed straight to support and ease the burdens on the people.”
The package, which amounts to 40.3 billion pounds, follows directives from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. It will be implemented immediately and continue until the end of the current fiscal year on 30 June, 2026. It is designed to cover a broad range of initiatives that directly improve living conditions and quality of life, Madbouly said.
