Egyptian Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Minister, Eng. Atef Helmy said it is expected for the revenues of telecommunication sector of this year to reach EGP66 billion, which represents 3.2% of the gross national product(GNP).
The Minister added that the Ministry will offer the pilot project for broadband strategy worth EGP350 million, borne by the universal service fund of THE National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (NTRA).
He said by 2014, the Phase I of Broadband will be launched with EGP17billion investments.
He emphasized that it is expected for the investments to up EGP47 billion during the fiscal year of 2017-2018 in order to spread high-speed internet services (ADSL), noting that each 10% boosting of ADSL will contribute with 1% of GNP and it will provide 10 K direct job opportunities and 50 K indirect job opportunities.
He further asserted that offering the integrated operator license will be in the next seven weeks before the end of 2013, pointing out that offering the license will resolve many accumulation problems such as ,the three mobile phone operators and Telecom Egypt (TE).(ETAL).
