EGPC seizes 100k litres of smuggled fuel in first week of Nov

Egypt’s General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) continued inspection campaigns in early November, uncovering violations at several fuel stations across the country.

The Central Committee for Trade Monitoring at EGPC found six stations in Assiut and Luxor manipulating diesel and gasoline volumes, totaling around 100,000 litres. Legal reports were filed and fines of 3.1 million Egyptian pounds were imposed, while five dispensers were sealed in Assiut due to shortages.

Inspectors also discovered five unlicensed roadside pumps in Gharbia, Kafr El Sheikh, Sharqia, and Port Said trading petroleum products and oils of unknown origin, stored unsafely and using established marketing companies’ trademarks. Authorities are coordinating to remove the illegal operations.

In Sharqia, a tanker carrying 7,000 litres of fuel belonging to a local station was seized for illegal trading.

The committee inspected 32 stations across 11 governorates, noting occupational safety breaches and detecting water contamination in some storage tanks, which were cleaned immediately. Companies were instructed to rectify violations and comply with safety standards.
