Egypt, Abbott discuss healthcare cooperation, diagnostics

Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population Khaled Abdel Ghaffar held a meeting with Director of Government Affairs for the Middle East at Abbott Hany Hanser and Regional Managing Director for Abbott in the Middle East and Northeast Africa Islam Jaber to discuss enhancing cooperation in the healthcare sector.

The meeting focused on strengthening laboratory capabilities by providing advanced diagnostic tools to hospitals and clinics, particularly in remote and border areas. Discussions also covered expanding nationwide screening campaigns and increasing the availability of medical devices for diabetes and cardiovascular health, alongside training healthcare professionals.

Plans were reviewed for equipping laboratories within the ministry’s preventive medicine sector, upgrading diagnostic tools, and improving sample transportation. Abbott proposed advanced diagnostics for early detection and monitoring of diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and infectious diseases, along with innovative treatment technologies.

The talks also explored collaboration on nutrition programs using Abbott products to combat malnutrition in children and pregnant women, as well as potential initiatives to address the growing burden of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and obesity.
