Egypt advances bus diesel-to-natural gas conversion

Egypt’s Military Production and Petroleum ministries are advancing a joint programme to convert a total of 2,262 buses in six phases, with 377 buses in each phase. The first phase has been completed and the second phase is scheduled for completion by December 2025.

The progress was reviewed during a meeting between Minister of State for Military Production Mohamed Salah El-Din Moustafa and Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi. Minister Moustafa highlighted collaboration on the production of prepaid gas meters to conserve state resources and encourage rational gas use.

He praised the vital role of the Ministry of Petroleum in securing petroleum and natural gas supplies by expanding exploration activities, diversifying sources, adjusting the energy mix, and maximising the added value of natural resources.

Badawi expressed appreciation for the partnership with Military Production Ministry, highlighting the efficiency of its companies in delivering projects on time. He affirmed the Petroleum Ministry’s keenness to expand joint initiatives of economic value, making better use of local resources and improving public services.

Both ministers agreed to maintain regular follow-up on ongoing projects and to address any challenges during implementation.
