Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly on Sunday reviewed progress on a project to develop an integrated digital system for the Central Department of Passports, Border Management and Control, and electronic visa issuance.
Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat said the initiative aims to replace paper-based tourist visa procedures with a digital platform using QR codes. The system is designed to ease airport congestion, improve operations at border crossings, strengthen security, and enhance real-time data sharing with decision-making centres.
Talaat added that the project is expected to improve tourism services, boost Egypt’s global competitiveness, and give authorities instant access to data for evidence-based policymaking.
The meeting also reviewed the operational rollout, which covers 42 air, land, and sea ports, 40 residency offices, and 165 consulates and embassies. Officials discussed the first phase of implementation and the plan for subsequent stages.
