Egypt advances plans to link Cyprus’ Aphrodite Gas Field to national infrastructure

Egypt is advancing plans to connect the Cyprus Aphrodite gas field to its domestic infrastructure, a move aimed at enabling re-exports to international markets, the Ministry of Petroleum said on Monday.

The discussion took place during a video conference between Petroleum Minister Karim Badawy, Chevron’s Cyprus manager Basil Allam, and senior officials overseeing the project.

Badawy highlighted the project’s role in strengthening Egypt’s position as a regional hub for gas trading and transit, optimising the use of infrastructure, and supporting efficient gas resource management to enhance energy security. He called for close coordination among all parties to accelerate implementation and ensure long-term strategic benefits.

The meeting also reviewed progress on drafting key project agreements through technical and legal working groups, agreeing to intensify efforts and hold further meetings to finalise the agreements promptly.
