Egypt advances renewable energy expansion to strengthen national grid

Egypt is accelerating plans to integrate new and renewable energy projects into its national electricity grid, Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly said on Tuesday, as the government seeks to meet rising energy demand and support sustainable power delivery.

During a meeting with the Ministers of Planning, Finance, and Electricity, Madbouly emphasised that prioritising renewable energy is a strategic focus, noting that expanding solar, wind, and battery storage projects will reduce reliance on conventional fuels, lower operational costs, and create a more balanced energy mix.

The prime minister instructed officials to mobilise financial resources to speed the integration of additional renewable capacities, ensuring the grid can meet growing demand without service interruptions.

The meeting also addressed coordination among the Ministries of Electricity, Petroleum, and Finance to fast-track clean energy projects and secure proper funding. The officials reviewed planned capacities for wind and solar projects, battery storage under the 2030 Energy Strategy, and the status of ongoing and contracted initiatives, including sites managed by the New and Renewable Energy Authority in the Gulf of Suez and Red Sea regions.
