Egypt to increase energy production to 234b kwh in ’24-25 – ministry

The state-owned Egyptian Electricity Holding Company aims to increase energy production to 234 billion kWh in the fiscal year 2024/2025, marking a 3.1 per cent rise from the projected figures in 2023/24.

During the company’s general assembly chaired by the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy to discuss the budget, strategic investments totalling approximately 63 billion Egyptian pound were proposed in the budget for the fiscal year 2024/25.

Moreover, key priorities outlined in the upcoming budget include enhancing power plant efficiency through comprehensive maintenance programmes, ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply across sectors, and optimising network capabilities to manage an anticipated peak load increase of 5.4 per cent to 37,400 MW.

The assembly also emphasised collaborative efforts with the petroleum sector to secure fuel supplies for power stations and promote energy efficiency and conservation initiatives.

Notably, the Ministry’s strategic vision extends to maximising renewable energy and hydrogen projects, the goal is to achieve over 42 per cent contribution from renewable energy sources to the total generated energy by 2035, aligning with global environmental objectives.
