Egypt aims to increase reliance on renewable energy – FinMin at Davos ’25

Egypt’s Minister of Finance, Ahmed Kouchouk, outlined on Thursday the country’s plans to increase reliance on renewable energy sources by expanding green investments and empowering the private sector to lead green economy initiatives.

This strategy aims to enhance sustainability, improve climate change adaptation, and reinforce Egypt’s regional leadership in clean energy, Kouchouk added during the ‘Growth in the Middle East and North Africa’ session at the Davos 2025 Forum.

He emphasised the government’s focus on long-term investments in education and smart infrastructure to build a diversified, knowledge-based economy. He noted that staying aligned with global technological advancements necessitates enhancing workers’ skills in artificial intelligence and green technologies.

The minister called for regional cooperation to mitigate the impact of global supply chain disruptions, advocating for deeper economic integration through intra-regional trade, infrastructure investment, and digital technology exchange.
