Egypt, Algeria discuss expanding energy cooperation

Egypt’s Petroleum Minister Karim Badawy met Wednesday with Algeria’s Ambassador to Egypt, Mohamed Sofiane Berrah to discuss enhancing collaboration in oil, gas, and mineral resources, building on a memorandum of understanding signed in October 2022.

Badawy highlighted the strong bilateral relations and growing cooperation on energy projects in Algeria, noting that Egyptian firm Petrojet was recently awarded a major contract as the general contractor for Phase II development of the Hassi Bir Rekaiz field for Sonatrach Petroleum Corporation, valued at over $1 billion.

The Algerian ambassador reaffirmed the robust ties between the two countries across multiple sectors and expressed mutual interest in expanding energy collaboration. He added that relations are expected to strengthen further during the upcoming Egyptian-Algerian Joint Higher Committee meeting later this month in Egypt, which will be chaired by the prime ministers of both nations.c
