Egypt’s Labour Minister Mohamed Gobran endorsed the disbursement of 2.966 million Egyptian pounds ($61,192) in one month to provide health, social, and accident assistance for 374 informal workers across 25 governorates, the ministry said Tuesday.
The funding included 2.48 million pounds for social and medical care — covering childbirth, marriage, bereavement, and surgical procedures — 400,000 pounds for accident compensation for two workers, and 85,000 pounds for a prosthetic half-joint for an injured worker.
Minister Gobran said the support programme for informal workers will continue under the direct guidance of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, part of wider efforts to expand social protection for vulnerable groups.
