Egypt bank deposits surpass EGP 9 trillion at Jan-end: CBE data

Deposits at Egyptian banks rose to 9.021 trillion Egyptian pounds ($292.7 billion) as of the end of January 2023 from 8.580 trillion pounds at the end of December 2022.

Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) data released on Saturday showed deposits at government banks increased to 2.043 trillion pounds at the end of January 2023 from 1.951 trillion pounds at the end of December 2022. These included local currency deposits worth 1.714 trillion pounds and others dominated in foreign currencies worth 328.5 billion pounds.

Deposits in non-government banks also inched up to 6.977 trillion pounds in January 2023 from 6.628 trillion in December 2022. These included 5.494 trillion pounds worth of local-currency deposits and 1.483 trillion pounds worth foreign-currency deposits.
