The establishment of the Egypt-based Arab Court for Arbitration represents a significant step towards enhancing joint Arab co-operation. According to Egypt’s Minister of International Cooperation, Rania Al-Mashat, the Court serves as a catalyst for pan-Arab trade.
Its mission is to facilitate dispute resolution and promote economic ties within the Arab world. Al-Mashat emphasised the transformative potential of this institution during the annual meetings of Arab financial institutions.
Currently, the Ministry of International Cooperation is providing temporary premises for the Arab Court for Arbitration in downtown Cairo. However, plans are underway to relocate the Court to the New Administrative Capital once its dedicated facility is completed. This commitment underscores Egypt’s dedication to ensuring the Court’s effective functioning and advancing Arab economic integration. By offering a neutral platform for resolving commercial disputes, the Court aims to strengthen economic relationships among Arab nations.
The Arab Court for Arbitration plays a crucial role in fostering dialogue, co-operation, and legal clarity across the Arab region. As it continues to evolve, it will contribute to harmonising business practices, promoting investment, and bolstering cross-border trade. Egypt’s support for this initiative reflects its commitment to regional prosperity and underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in achieving economic integration among Arab countries.
In December 2023, Egypt launched the Court within the framework of the tasks of the Economic Unity Council. It is responsible for settling commercial, economic and investment disputes between investors and countries and between countries.
