Egypt’s Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy met senior tourism officials in Bosnia and Herzegovina on Tuesday to discuss ways to expand cooperation and increase Bosnian visitors to Egypt.
He held an extensive meeting with representatives of tourism entities, city authorities, tour operators, hotel chains, airports, and promotion agencies, the Tourism Ministry said in a statement.
The minister stressed the importance of direct engagement with tour operators, describing the private sector as the “engine of growth” while the government focuses on infrastructure, investment climate, international promotion campaigns, and service quality.
He outlined Egypt’s tourism strategy, highlighting its diverse offerings – from cultural, beach, and spiritual tourism to Nile cruises and adventure travel – and said the country aims to double hotel capacity by 2030, with 18,000 rooms to be added this year.
Minister Fathy proposed familiarisation trips, tourism caravans, and joint workshops with Bosnian partners, and pointed to Egypt’s hosting of major international events in destinations such as New Alamein, Sharm El-Sheikh, and the Giza Pyramids.
Bosnian tourism officials welcomed the proposals and expressed interest in creating travel packages for the Egyptian market. The meeting also featured a presentation on Egypt’s tourism attractions and the ministry’s flight incentive programme.
