Egypt, BP discuss expansion plans to boost gas exploration, output

Egypt is exploring BP’s expansion plans in the country, including increased investment in gas exploration and production, the petroleum ministry said on Monday.

Petroleum Minister Karim Badawy held a meeting with a BP delegation led by William Lin, Executive Vice President for Gas and Low Carbon Energy, on the sidelines of the Egypt Energy Show (EGYPES 2026) in Cairo. The officials reviewed progress on existing projects and explored opportunities to scale up BP’s upstream activities.

Badawy said Egypt is working to improve the investment climate and deepen cooperation with international energy companies. He added that the government aims to settle outstanding dues to foreign partners by the end of June to boost investor confidence and encourage further investment.

Lin reaffirmed BP’s commitment to Egypt, describing the partnership as resilient despite recent challenges. He also highlighted the company’s interest in Egypt’s digital transformation in the energy sector and efforts to diversify energy sources in line with global trends.

Both sides pointed to opportunities in frontier areas, including the Red Sea, where BP is monitoring developments. BP officials said continued government support could help unlock further investment and support long-term energy security goals.
