Egypt breaks ground on $200m solar components complex in SCZONE

Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) held a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday for a $200 million integrated industrial complex for solar energy components in the Ain Sokhna Industrial Zone, the authority said in a statement.

The project, developed by China’s Sunrev Solar under the TEDA–Egypt framework, will be built in two phases over a 200,000-square-metre site. The first phase, valued at $90 million, will establish factories for solar cells and modules with a capacity of 2 gigawatts each.

The second phase, involving $110 million in investment, will focus on local production of key raw materials, including silicon ingots and wafers, alongside expanded output.

SCZONE Chairman Waleid Gamal El-Dien said the complex supports Egypt’s efforts to localise renewable energy industries and advance its green economy goals under Vision 2030. The contract for the project was signed on Wednesday in the presence of Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly.
