Egypt, Chevron discuss new gas exploration areas at World Energies Summit

Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum Karim Badawy met with Chris Powers, Global Exploration, Commercial, and Portfolio Director at Chevron, and Channa Kurukulasuriya, the company’s General Manager in Egypt, on Tuesday to discuss expanding exploration and investment opportunities in the country.

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the World Energies Summit in London, focused on completing procedures for awarding new gas exploration areas recently won by Chevron in the latest Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) bid round via the Egypt Upstream Gateway (EUG). Discussions also covered ongoing investment opportunities in the Red Sea and Western Mediterranean.

Powers praised the successful cooperation between Egypt’s petroleum sector and international companies, highlighting the development of the Nargis gas field, one of the region’s largest recent discoveries.
