Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology Amr Talaat inaugurated the fourth edition of the CAISEC’25 International Cybersecurity Conference on Monday, as per a Cabinet statement.
The two-day event, held under the patronage of Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly, is organised by Mercury Communications in collaboration with the Arab ICT Organisation, with media partnership from United Media Services (UMS).
The conference features 180 keynote speakers from public and private sectors, 5,000 decision-makers from ministries, government agencies, regional organisations, tech and cybersecurity firms, innovators, experts, researchers, academics, and specialists.
Talaat noted that cybersecurity is no longer a technical issue confined to specialists but a national, developmental, and societal priority requiring collaborative efforts across all sectors, according to the statement.
The minister emphasised the importance of data protection in the age of artificial intelligence, particularly with the potential risks of attacks using quantum computing. He called for increased vigilance and readiness at both local and regional levels.
Talaat outlined the government’s efforts to bolster cybersecurity, noting that the Supreme Cybersecurity Council has developed a five-year strategy focused on five pillars. These include public awareness, a robust legislative and governance framework, resilient cyber defences, investment in human capital through research and innovation, and regional and international cooperation.
He underscored the importance of cultivating a skilled workforce, pointing to a global shortage of more than 3.5 million cybersecurity professionals. The ministry, he said, is implementing comprehensive capacity-building programmes targeting school and university students, graduates, and professionals in data-sensitive fields.
