Egypt commits EGP 51b for water, irrigation projects – minister
Egypt allocated 51 billion Egyptian pounds for the projects implemented by the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation in the current fiscal year 2023-2024, said Prof. Hani Sewilam, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation.
He added that progress rates of the projects reached about 98 per cent during the first ten months of the current fiscal year (from July 1, 2023, to April 30, 2024). This announcement was made during a meeting on Tuesday where the approved investment plan for the upcoming fiscal year 2024-2025.
The plan includes the continuation of major ongoing projects as well as new projects in various areas, such as the replacement and renewal of water facilities, canal and watercourse rehabilitation, covered and general drainage projects, and the replacement, renewal, and upgrading of lifting stations.
It also covers flood risk management and rainwater harvesting, coastal protection projects, and the drilling of groundwater wells.
Additionally, the plan involves the installation of solar units for wells, national projects in the North Sinai, the Southern Valley Development Project, and the Future of Egypt and New Delta projects, among other initiatives.
