Egypt, Cuba explore air transport deal, aviation cooperation

Egypt’s Civil Aviation Minister Sameh El-Hefny met with Armando Daniel Lopez, head of Cuba’s Institute of Civil Aeronautics, to discuss a potential air transport agreement and broader cooperation with Caribbean nations, the ministry said on Monday.

The talks, held on the sidelines of the 42nd International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Assembly, focused on enhancing civil aviation cooperation and technical partnerships to support growth in both countries’ aviation sectors.

The officials also explored a memorandum of understanding that could pave the way for an air transport agreement, aiming to strengthen aviation and commercial ties between Cairo and Havana.

El-Hefny highlighted historic Cairo–Havana relations and reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to expanding links with Latin America and the Caribbean, particularly in aviation, as a bridge for global integration and mutual interests.

Lopez voiced Cuba’s interest in signing the agreement to advance bilateral cooperation and requested Egypt’s support for Havana’s bid for ICAO Council membership under Category III.
