Egypt’s Foreign Ministry expressed its extreme dissatisfaction with South Africa’s statement on the most recent events in Egypt.
South Africa’s Department of International Relations and Cooperation had declared its rejection for the latest events which caused former president Mohamed Morsi’s ouster and the constitution’s suspension.
These measures oppose the conventions and customs of the African Union, the department said.
South Africa’s continued claim of Morsi’s legitimacy insults millions of Egyptians’ will, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
It is sadly ironic that Egypt was among the first to defend the rights of South Africans in their fight against apartheid whereas South Africa’s current government takes a negative stance regarding the Egyptians’ attempt to rectify the course of their revolution.
