Egypt details 50% rise in medical risk payouts after Cabinet approval

Egypt’s Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar on Thursday detailed a Cabinet‑approved plan to raise one‑time compensation payments for healthcare workers injured or killed in the line of duty by 50 per cent and expand the programme’s coverage.

The Cabinet signed off on the increase Wednesday. Under the new framework, payouts for death or total disability will climb to 150,000 Egyptian pounds ($3,078) from 100,000 pounds. Compensation for partial disability will range from 30,000 to 120,000 pounds, up from 20,000–80,000 pounds, depending on the severity of the injury, Minister Abdel Ghaffar said.

Coverage from the Medical Professions Risk Compensation Fund will also extend to employees of Egypt’s Healthcare Authority (EHA) and the General Authority for Healthcare Accreditation and Regulation (GAHAR), he added.

The measure is part of a government push to improve working conditions for Egypt’s medical staff and recognise their key role in delivering healthcare nationwide.
