The official spokesperson of Egypt’s presidency Bassam Radi said on Saturday that an ambitious national plan has been developed aimed to replace and renew the electricity grid in Egypt, especially after the country has experienced electricity shortages in the recent period.
Radi explained that a detailed plan has been devised for the development of the electricity grid, noting that the shortage problem has now been fully resolved.
He revealed that there will be significant additions to the electricity grid with the opening of three new German stations in May, June and July and that these stations will provide sufficient energy for future generations.
Egypt has been suffering from an energy crisis in the past few years with power outages reaching a peak in 2014. The Egyptian government claims that the problem has completely been overcome since June 2015.
The Electricity Ministry says it plans to upgrade old power stations in cooperation with specialized companies in order to reduce fuel consumption and optimize the operation of these stations.
President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has said that ending the power crises that hit Egypt in 2014 came as one of the main priorities of his presidential agenda, adding that the administration worked to double power stations in Egypt to sustain an estimated 25,000 megawatts. Source: MENA
