Egypt disburses EGP 4b under Takaful and Karama in Sept

Egypt’s Takaful and Karama cash transfer programme has paid out more than 4 billion Egyptian pounds in September to 4.7 million families, the ministry of social solidarity announced on Monday.

Payments began early in the day through ATMs nationwide, with beneficiaries also able to use electronic payment services for government transactions and purchases. The ministry said it is monitoring the disbursement process in coordination with governors and local social solidarity directorates.

The programme, which supports nearly 18 million low-income and vulnerable citizens, is funded by an annual budget of 54 billion pounds following a permanent 25 per cent increase introduced in April.

The ministry said Takaful and Karama plays a central role in protecting social and economic rights, providing both conditional and unconditional cash assistance, and helping beneficiaries contribute to sustainable development.
