Egypt’s Ministry of Social Solidarity disbursed a total of 32.6 billion Egyptian pounds through its Takaful and Karama Programme during the 2023/2024 fiscal year, the country’s statistics agency CAPMAS reported Thursday.
According to the CAPMAS, under the Karama programme, 13.1 billion Egyptian pounds were distributed to 1.8 million beneficiaries. On the other hand, the Takaful programme disbursed 19.4 billion Egyptian pounds, reaching 2.7 million households.
Pensions and assistance from the ministry totaled 1.6 billion Egyptian pounds, benefiting 248,300 cases. In the government sector, social insurance pensions amounted to 219.7 billion Egyptian pounds, covering 4.7 million beneficiaries.
The National Organisation for Social Insurance distributed 212.2 billion Egyptian pounds in pensions to 5.3 million beneficiaries across the public, private, and public business sectors.
Trade unions in Egypt numbered 29 in 2024, while trade union committees reached 2,067, comprising 4.5 million members.
