Egypt earmarks EGP 4b in additional support for 10m families

Egypt’s Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk and Supply and Internal Trade Minister Sherif Farouk reviewed the distribution of additional assistance to 10 million vulnerable families with ration cards, amounting to four billion Egyptian pounds.

This initiative is part of the latest social protection package, designed to better target the most vulnerable and low-income groups, helping to ease living expenses for citizens, according to an official statement on Tuesday.

A joint statement from both ministries confirmed that the state treasury has allocated two billion pounds from the additional funds under the social protection package to the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade.

This will provide an increase of 125 pounds for single-person ration cards and 250 pounds for cards with two or more individuals for two months, March and April 2025. Payments start on Tuesday, 18 March 2025 for ten million eligible families.
