Egypt, EBRD discuss expanding cooperation in infrastructure, utilities

Egypt’s Minister of Housing Sherif El-Sherbiny met with Sue Barrett, head of Infrastructure for Europe and MENA at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), on Wednesday to explore collaboration on key infrastructure and utilities projects.

Minister El-Sherbiny reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to strengthening partnerships that drive sustainable development, particularly in water and sanitation services. Discussions highlighted EBRD-supported initiatives such as the wastewater project in villages near Qarun Lake in Fayoum and the sanitation programme in Kafr El-Sheikh, with a focus on expanding cooperation to additional projects.

Barrett praised the ongoing collaboration and expressed EBRD’s readiness to support Egypt’s infrastructure development, emphasising the positive economic impact of these initiatives.

Both sides explored further areas of cooperation, including enhancements in sustainable utilities and housing projects, particularly under Egypt’s Hayah Karima (Decent Life) Initiative aimed at improving rural communities.
