Egypt’s Minister of Civil Aviation, Sameh El-Hefny, held a meeting with Mark Davis, Managing Director for the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean region at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), to discuss cooperation in civil aviation and infrastructure development.
El-Hefny highlighted Egypt’s strategy to enhance private sector participation in the aviation sector, including a government-commissioned global consultancy to conduct a comprehensive study on optimising airport operations. The initiative aims to maximise efficiency and attract investment through assessments.
He also emphasised Egypt’s commitment to structural reforms aimed at fostering an attractive investment climate, including advancing the government’s divestment programme to bolster the national economy.
Davis reiterated the EBRD’s focus on sustainable development, particularly in financing private sector projects in infrastructure, industry, and renewable energy.
He highlighted the bank’s efforts to support Egypt’s transition to green economy by funding renewable energy initiatives, improving infrastructure sustainability, and addressing climate change.
The EBRD also aims to enhance private sector competitiveness, improve governance, and expand economic opportunities through skill development and institutional reforms.
