Egypt, EU discuss second tranche of €4b financial aid ahead of summit

Egypt’s Minister of Planning, Rania El-Mashat, discussed on Saturday the release of the second tranche of the €4 billion Macro-Financial Assistance (MFA) programme with ‏Annika EriksgårdDirector of Financial and Economic Affairs at the European Commission. The talks also covered preparations for the upcoming Egypt–EU Summit in October.

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the World Bank Group Annual Meetings in Washington, was attended by Finance Minister Ahmed Kojak.

Al-Mashat reaffirmed Egypt’s close coordination with national institutions and the European Union to advance the economic pillar of their strategic partnership.

In December 2024, the European Commission approved a €1 billion disbursement to Egypt under the MFA programme to support macroeconomic stability and the state budget.
