Egypt, EU discuss strengthening economic cooperation

Egypt’s Minister of Investment Hassan El-Khatib met Monday with Head of European Union Delegation to Egypt, Angelina Eichhorst to discuss strengthening economic cooperation.

The talks focused on expanding bilateral economic ties, streamlining trade procedures, and enhancing technical cooperation. Key areas included investment facilitation, regulatory reforms, and support for Egypt’s structural economic overhaul.

“Open trade remains a core engine for economic growth,” Minister El-Khatib said, reaffirming Egypt’s commitment to World Trade Organisation (WTO) rules. He emphasised the importance of trust in regulatory processes to attract foreign investment and highlighted Egypt’s competitive advantages—chiefly low labour and energy costs, and robust infrastructure.

Minister El-Khatib also underlined the strategic nature of Egypt-EU relations, calling for a forward-looking approach that strengthens mutual interests.

Ambassador Eichhorst welcomed the progress made in EU-Egypt cooperation, particularly in agricultural trade, calling it a positive signal of the strength of the partnership.

The meeting marks a step forward in deepening economic collaboration as Egypt seeks to position itself as a regional hub for investment amid ongoing reforms and growing global trade challenges.
