Egypt expects ‘constructive’ talks with IMF on 4th programme review – minister

Egypt’s Minister of Finance Ahmed Kouchouk expressed optimism about having ‘constructive’ discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission as part of a fourth review of a $8 billion loan programme.

Minister Kouchouk made these remarks during his meeting with Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly on Monday to present a comprehensive report on his participation in the IMF and World Bank annual meetings in Washington, D.C.

The minister said he engaged in G20 sessions and held bilateral meetings with finance ministers from various countries to strengthen economic and financial ties.

Additionally, Minister Kouchouk participated in ministerial discussions with the IMF Managing Director, focusing on issues affecting Middle Eastern and African nations. He also attended investment forums hosted by leading global investment banks, where he met with hundreds of investors and representatives from credit rating agencies. These engagements highlighted the international community’s growing interest in Egypt’s financial and investment landscape.

He further noted that the meetings provided a platform to showcase Egypt’s latest economic reforms. The gatherings allowed Egypt to present its vision on financial and economic matters, share insights on regional and global challenges, and outline the government’s approach to tackling them through targeted reforms.

Last week, Prime Minister Madbouly said an IMF mission is expected to begin its fourth review of Egypt’s loan programme following the conclusion of the IMF/World Bank’s annual meetings.
