Egypt exported 263,000 tons of food products during the week of April 5–11, according to a statement by the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA) on Sunday.
The exports included 4,800 shipments from 1,400 companies, covering 625 different product categories such as vegetables, fruits, flour, and assorted food items.
Potatoes topped the list of vegetable exports with 35,000 tons, followed by frozen mixed vegetables at 8,000 tons, and various types of beans at 6,000 tons. In total, Egypt exported 72,000 tons of vegetables across 66 different varieties.
On the fruit side, citrus fruits led the pack with 45,000 tons, followed by strawberries at 15,000 tons, and other assorted fruits totaling 5,000 tons. Egypt exported 65,000 tons of fruits across 30 varieties.
Sudan, Italy, Russia, and Saudi Arabia were the top destinations for Egyptian food exports during the reporting period, out of a total of 190 importing countries, the NFSA said.
