The Egyptian exports of iron and steel in January 2013 reached EGP 496 million, while the total exports in 2012 recorded EGP 5.2 billion; according to the foreign trade sector.
Sources in the foreign trade sector told “Amwal Al Ghad” that the total exports of building materials last January recorded EGP 3.5 billion. The big share of exports were jewellery and gems, which reached EGP 1.4 billion, followed by the iron and steel, besides aluminum with EGP 381 million.
For his part, the Egyptian businessmen Ahmed Abu Hashima, Board Chairman of Egyptian Steel, told “Amwal Al Ghad” that Egypt is capable of developing its domestic production of steel in the coming period, as there are more than 9 stalled factories can add to the domestic production in case of operating; referring that the factories’ file is shown to the Turkish side to contribute to its operation.
